A joint meeting in April 2018 hosted by the Society for Applied Microbiology (SfAM) and the British Society for Plant Pathology (BSPP) highlighted that microbial taxonomy is an important facet of basic and applied research that requires further support.

We aim to prepare a brief position statement, highlighting the main issues and barriers facing microbial taxonomy studies and applications. We intend for this document to be shared with important research-supporting organisations and individuals, both to inform and to ask for change on behalf of the scientific community.

We need your help for this – we would be grateful for 10-15 minutes of your time to fill out this survey. Any examples and viewpoints you can provide would be deeply appreciated but do not feel obliged to answer every question! If you would like to have a part in drafting this position statement, you can state your interest at the end of this survey. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact christopher@sfam.org.uk. Thank you.
